Luis Iribarne is a Full Professor in the Department of Informatics and Head of the Applied Computing Research Group (TIC-211, Andalusian Government, SPAIN) at the University of Almería (UAL). Coordinator of the UAL PhD Programme in Informatics (CS) since 2012. Head of the Computer Languages and Systems knowledge area of the Department of Informatics at the University of Almeria since 2017. From 1991 to 1993, he worked as an Associate Professor at the University of Granada and collaborated as an IT System Analyst at the University School of Almeria. Since 1993, he has been an Associate Professor in the Higher College of Engineering, University of Almeria. From 1993 to 1999, he combined his academic work with the FIAPA Research Centre (Foundation for Agricultural Research in the Province of Almeria, of the Andalusian Government). During this period, he worked in the field of Informatics (CS), which was applied to agriculture, developing and implementing several mathematical models to simulate industrial distributed systems and processes used for innovative greenhouses. Specifically, he coordinated several works on simulation of the inner radiation of greenhouses through finite elements and volumetric space algorithms in a project funded by the European Esprit PASO/PACE Programme and the Ministry of Industry, where he was a speaker of the project results in Brussels in November 1996. In FIAPA, he also coordinated a research project on Geographic Information Systems and the digital processing of satellite images for the Andalusian Government. From 2000 to 2005, he collaborated as a Researcher in the Software Engineering group of the University of Malaga, obtaining his PhD in Informatics Engineering in 2003 (supervisors J.M. Troya and A. Vallecillo). During this period, he participated as a researcher in web-oriented software technologies for a project funded by CYTED (Principal Investigators: Oscar Pastor and Antonio Vallecillo). In 2006, he founded the Applied Computing Research Group, ACG TIC-211, at the UAL. Ever since, he has been the Principal Investigator of 9 competitive R&D projects, seven of them from the National Science and Technology Programmes belonging to the Ministries of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO), Science and Innovation (MICINN) and Education (MEC), and two projects of excellence of the Andalusian Regional Government (Junta de Andalucía). The research results of these projects produced 20 contract projects as Principal Investigator: 11 of them as R&D contracts (art. 83/LOU) with the companies Novateq, Imagital and Alborada, and with the City Council of Almeria; and the remaining contracts as several service provisions for OTRI-UAL, OTRI-UGR, CIESOL, and the groups HUM061 and HUM760 of the UAL. In total, he has managed 29 projects for an amount of 1,137,459.97 euros and has directed 23 staff contracts, including 15 labour contracts and eight technical contracts. Supervisor of 10 (PhD) doctoral theses and another 3 in progress. He has also coordinated five grants for the Staff Training Programmes (2 FPI and 3 FPU). He is the author and co-author of around one hundred scientific publications, including JCR-indexed impact journal articles, books and book chapters, and proceedings in international conferences indexed in the ISI Web and Scopus, of which 17 are publications in collaboration with several international researchers of the centres: Penn State University (USA), TUDelft (Holland), University of Thessaly, Volos (Greece), Open University of Cyprus (Cyprus), and the Data Engineering, Fraunhofer IESE (Germany). He collaborates as a reviewer in some prestigious international journals, Elsevier, IEEE, Springer, and Wiley-Blackwell. Project evaluator (62) of the National Agency for Evaluation and Foresight (ANEP) since 2011. Member (on-site) of the National Commission for Evaluating Research Projects 2018 (Spanish Research Agency). Member of the National Accreditation Evaluation Commission, Computer Engineering Branch (ANECA), from 2019 to 2021. Project evaluator of the National Agency for the Scientific and Technological Promotion (ANPCyT, Argentina) in 2015 and 2021, and Campus Programme Projects, OTRI, University of Granada, in 2009. Member and Head of the UAL node in seven national Research Networks on model-driven software development, service engineering and integrating information and business applications. Permanent member of the "Innovation & Smart City" panel of the Strategic Plan City of Almeria 2030, Almeria City Council, since 2018. Member of the consulting firm INECO advisory committee, responsible for developing the Smart Campus Director Plan of UAL from 2018 to 2019. Member of the IEEE since 2009 and the Scientific Society of Software Engineering and Software Development Technologies (SISTEDES) since 2011. Founding partner of the spin-off AlboradaIT in 2009.
